Notre Canadien Vacance
Our Canadian 2008 Vacation
June 21
Day 7
Vieux Montreal, Plateau du Mont-Royal
We walked through Vieux Montreal, starting at the Bank of Montreal, which was built in 1847 and is still a working bank. It was modeled after the Parthenon in Rome. The interior has 32 marble columns and it's ceiling is 20 meters high! We also walked to Montreal's first public square (built in 1657), La Place du Marche.
After a brief walk through the old port, we went back to our hotel for a break and spent some time at the pool. Marina seemed to enjoy getting her feet wet!
Later, we drove to the Plateau du Mont-Royal area, where we had dinner at Bieres & Compagnie, which has 100 varieties of beer and 30+ types of mussels!
After dinner, we fell off the suggested route and took our own detour from Rue St. Denis, through Carre St. Louis, to Rue Prince Arthur Ouest, and eventually stumbled upon Boul St-Laurent, which was closed to auto traffic for several blocks for a weekend festival. Marina got so much attention wearing her pink hat (many people asked to take pictures of her and some even asked to hold her!).
