The Twenty-Seventh Month
In the beginning of the month, I'm already feeling anxious about Siena's impending birth. She's due on the 19th and I'm definitely ready (I was feeling ready in March)! My regular obstetrician, Dr. Edwards, had informed us he was going on vacation during the time of my due date. His backup, Dr. Ghozland was just as good (his office is actually just 2 blocks away from us!). 2 weeks before Siena's due date, I was already 2 centimeters dialated with the head already engaged (just like with Marina). One week before, I was at 4 cm. On the 19th, there was no change and Dr. Ghozland gave us the option to go to the hospital the next day. My water was broken just before 4PM on the 20th, and Siena was born at 6:53 PM! Dr. Ghozland even let Mark assist in Siena's delivery. Mark held Siena's head when she came out and even gave her to me! What an experience for him! And what an adjustment for Marina! Mark's parents and brother Dan visited while I was at the hopsital (as well as Mark Phillips and friend Gil).
Marina adjusted rather well to Siena. It may have helped that Marina was allowed at the hospital while I was there, but she wasn't allowed to stay overnight. It was nice seeing Marina carress and kiss her little sister! One of the things Marina said was "Momma's stomach all done Siena!" It was also cute hearing Marina say "Marina big sister!" and "Siena little sister!". Marina even named her little baby doll "Baby Siena".
